President John Dramani Mahama has appointed two senior government officials to act in additional ministerial roles following the untimely deaths of two cabinet ministers in a helicopter crash on August 6.

A statement from the Office of the President confirmed that Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Finance, has been tasked with the additional responsibility of Defence Minister. Additionally, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, the current Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has been asked to act as the Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology.
The move comes in the wake of a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of the substantive Ministers for Defence and for Environment, Science and Technology. The incident occurred while they were en route to an official event in Obuasi.
“This follows the tragic demise of the substantive Ministers… in yesterday’s fatal helicopter crash,” the statement read.
The announcement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, who also serves as Minister for Government Communications.
The nation continues to mourn the loss of the two ministers as investigations into the crash continue.
