2024 elections will be closely monitored to avert any possible corruption – PTAAM president
The president of the Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement-Africa (PTAAM), Ebenezer Havor, has reaffirmed his organization's commitment to ensuring free and fair elections in Ghana.
Speaking during an interview with UTV in Accra on December 1, 2024, Havor emphasized the need for vigilance to prevent any potential electoral malpractice.
According to Havor, PTAAM-Gh, a member of the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Transparent Elections, is determined to closely monitor the electoral process despite facing challenges in obtaining accreditation from the Electoral Commission (EC).
“We sent letters for accreditation, but they declined to give us, which doesn't stop us from going to work in any way. We want to stop the corruption in the system,” Havor stated.
He highlighted the organization’s goal of preventing any manipulation of election results, stressing that their monitoring activities would proceed regardless of the EC’s stance.
Havor also called on the public and other stakeholders to actively monitor the elections, underscoring the absence of any legal barrier preventing civil society organizations from gathering reports on election day.
“There’s no law that prevents organizations or civil society from taking reports on election day. If there is a law, the EC should provide the said law. So, I am telling everybody who has an interest in the election to monitor it closely,” he declared.
PTAAM-GH's stance comes at a time when public scrutiny of the electoral process is at its peak.
