The Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, has announced that the 8th edition of the Gathering of the Royals will take place on March 31, 2026, at GNAT HALL, Accra

The annual event is expected to bring together between 600 and 800 queen mothers from across Ghana’s 16 regions who are actively engaged in agriculture and agribusiness.

Speaking at a media launch in Accra, Ms Akosa said the initiative, which has been running for eight years, was created to provide a platform for traditional leaders involved in agriculture to deliberate on issues affecting the sector and contribute to policy discussions.

She explained that the programme initially formed part of the Women in Food and Agriculture Training Forum but was later developed into a standalone event due to the growing interest in the Agri-Royal panel discussions.

According to her, the gathering brings together queen mothers who are directly involved in farming, agricultural inputs supply, machinery services, agribusiness operations and other activities that contribute to the growth of agriculture in their communities.

She noted that the event also attracts policymakers, investors, agricultural value chain actors, development partners and members of the media to discuss challenges within the sector and explore practical solutions.

At the end of the deliberations, a communiqué is prepared and submitted to Parliament’s Select Committee on Agriculture to help guide policy direction and interventions in the sector.

Ms Akosa said several initiatives had emerged from previous editions of the programme, including the Royals in Agribusiness Programme which supports women farmers with soil testing services to improve productivity.

She added that the platform had also facilitated collaborations aimed at addressing wildlife invasions on farmlands and improving farmers’ access to crop nutrition and crop protection products.

This year’s event will be held under the theme “Seeds of Change: From Leadership to Legacy,” which she said highlights the crucial role women play in sustaining Ghana’s food systems.

She explained that the theme also aligns with global efforts to recognize women farmers and seeks to amplify their contributions to national food security.

Under the initiative, participating queen mothers will receive boxes of day-old chicks to enable them support young women in their communities who are interested in agribusiness.

According to Ms Akosa, the intervention is aimed at creating dignified employment opportunities for young women while strengthening agricultural production at the community level.

The programme will also feature an Agri-Royal panel discussion involving eight queen mothers, alongside participation from women farmers, agricultural students, youth groups and agribusiness stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the President of the Queen Mothers Foundation of Ghana, Nana Ama Serwaa Bonsu, has commended the Agrihouse Foundation for promoting initiatives that empower queen mothers engaged in agriculture.

She described the Gathering of the Royals as an important platform that highlights the contributions of women leaders in agriculture and helps address challenges faced by farming communities.

Nana Ama Serwaa Bonsu, who is also a farmer, said she cultivates cocoa, plantain and cashew while also engaging in poultry production.

She noted that the initiative had helped amplify the voices of women farmers and strengthen partnerships among stakeholders within the agricultural sector.

She therefore called on corporate institutions and individuals to support the initiative to ensure its continued success.
