Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has called on the Ministerial Oversight Committee tasked with Ghana's 2026 World Cup participation to lead with accountability, speed, and national consciousness, as the country embarks on an ambitious journey to the global tournament.
Addressing the committee at its inaugural ceremony on Wednesday, November 26, Debrah emphasized that the World Cup is not just a 90-minute event, but a catalyst for national transformation, encompassing four years of preparation and four years of legacy-building.
"Whatever we all need to do to make Ghana proud, let us do our utmost. The road to 2026 begins now. This Oversight Committee must lead with accountability, speed, and national consciousness."
"The time for scattered effort is over. We cannot enter 2026 with the mindset of 2010 or 2014. Let us correct what must be corrected, amplify what can be built, lead with clarity, and act with urgency," Debrah declared.
He stressed that Ghana's preparation and participation must reflect organized planning and strategic focus, projecting the nation's discipline and pride on the global stage.
The Ministerial Oversight Committee comprises key stakeholders, including Stan Xoese Dogbe from the Office of the President, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel O Ablakwa, Youth Development Minister George Opare, Tourism and Culture Deputy Minister Yusif Jajah, Finance Ministry Deputy Minister Ampem Nyarkoh, GFA Chairman Kurt Okraku, Deputy National Security Coordinator Elizabeth Yankah, former Footballer Abedi Pele, Sports Ministry Chief Director Wilhelmina Asamoah, and one other member yet to be announced.
Mr.Debrah's call to action comes as Ghana prepares to take on the world in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
