
Simon Asare, a distinguished sports and entertainment journalist with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has been honoured by the United States Embassy in Ghana following his outstanding participation in a high-level media training programme.
The US Embassy in Accra on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, hosted a specialized capacity-building session designed for top Ghanaian journalists and digital content creators preparing to cover the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The programme forms part of the Embassy’s broader initiative to strengthen sports journalism and promote high-quality storytelling ahead of the global tournament.
During the training, Asare, a member of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) was recognized for his insightful contributions, analytical depth, and overall professionalism.
His engagement throughout the session reportedly stood out as impactful and exemplary among the cohort.
The honour was presented by Mr. Matthew K. Asada, Acting Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Ghana. Asada commended Asare for his active participation and commitment to elevating sports journalism standards.
He noted that such training programmes are critical for ensuring journalists are fully equipped to report effectively on what is expected to be the largest and most widely viewed World Cup in history.
Asada expressed optimism that Ghanaian journalists would leverage the knowledge and tools gained through the training to deliver accurate, compelling, and globally competitive coverage.
He emphasized that the media’s role would be crucial in shaping the narrative of the upcoming football extravaganza, which continues to grow in scale and global anticipation.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is projected to be the most expansive edition yet, featuring 48 teams and generating unprecedented international attention.
The Embassy’s initiative underscores its commitment to fostering strong Ghana–U.S. media collaborations and supporting Ghanaian journalists on the world stage.
