The National Organizer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Yaw Asani Tano, has stated that he would rejoice if he woke up to the news that former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta was dead or had been assassinated.
According to him, Ken Ofori-Atta's policies and actions caused significant harm to Ghanaians, including the banking sector clean-up, which led to massive job losses and financial hardships.
He further argued that the private sector also suffered greatly under Ofori-Atta’s leadership, with many businesses collapsing and lives being lost.
Given this, he suggested that if so, many people had suffered and died due to the former minister’s policies, his demise would not be unwarranted.
“If we wake up and hear that he is dead or someone has assassinated him, I would rejoice on the basis that his policies, actions, and inactions have caused the deaths of many people, and others are still suffering.
“I do not wish for anyone to assassinate him, but if it happens, I would be happy,” he said in an interview on Neat FM on February 14, 2025.
As a results of his proclamation, Ghanians have lambasted him for his comment on social media .

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared Ken Ofori-Atta a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations, including allegations tied to the controversial National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML).
Speaking at a press briefing on February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that Ofori-Atta is now officially a fugitive from justice and must return to Ghana immediately to face questioning.
“The former minister must cooperate with the ongoing investigations. Failure to do so will result in measures being taken to compel his return,” Agyebeng stated.
The Special Prosecutor also denied reports that his office was responsible for the raid on Ofori-Atta’s home, instead suggesting that the former minister orchestrated the incident to mislead the public and discredit the OSP’s investigations.
