The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has announced the suspension of the WA YAA DORM, WA YAA KLOWEM festival in Somanya, citing concerns about public safety and potential clashes with another traditional event.
This decision comes as tensions rise in the area due to the overlapping schedules of two major celebrations.
The newly introduced WA YAA DORM, WA YAA KLOWEM festival coincides with the grand durbar of the Plau Kani festival, a well-established tradition celebrated annually by the chiefs and people of Plau in Somanya.
REGSEC's security review revealed that both events were slated to use the same procession route on Saturday, April 19, 2025, significantly increasing the risk of conflicts between attendees.
In accordance with the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2020 (Act 1030), REGSEC has formally prohibited the WA YAA DORM, WA YAA KLOWEM celebration to ensure public safety and maintain order in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
The council emphasized that the directive prioritizes the peace and security of residents and urged organizers to fully comply with the ban.
To further safeguard the community, REGSEC has instructed law enforcement to oversee the proceedings of the Plau Kani festival, ensuring a secure and peaceful environment for residents and visitors alike.
