Opoku-Agyemang champions journalistic integrity, urging state media to uphold credibility

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has underscored the paramount importance of accuracy and credibility in state media reportage.

During a recent working visit to the Office of Government Communications, Her Excellency Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the imperative for news agencies to eschew distorted information and prioritize factual, balanced, and evidence-based content.

"Public trust in state institutions hinges largely on the integrity of the information they disseminate," Professor Opoku-Agyemang stressed, highlighting the critical role of credible journalism in fostering an informed citizenry.

The Vice President also exhorted media practitioners to innovate and adapt to the evolving media landscape, noting that "evolving audience demands require media organizations to remain dynamic and competitive."

"…But at least if you give the public different ways in which they can understand that particular material, I think that you have a unique way also of raising your status. I know you are doing a good job already. We are always looking at ways in which you can improve, if I may use the word. “So again, I want to thank all of you for the work you are doing. I encourage you to do more. Know that we are there to support you to achieve more, not just for yourself or your agency, but for our beloved country, Ghana," she said.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang's remarks come against the backdrop of growing public disquiet over the dissemination of graphic footage related to a recent helicopter crash in Tema, sparking a national conversation about journalistic ethics, respect for human dignity, and responsible reporting.
