More than 20 pupils from Prampram D/A Basic 'B' and Methodist Freeman Basic School in the Greater Accra Region were rushed to the Prampram Polyclinic after collapsing during class hours on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Eyewitnesses reported that several of the children appeared distressed, running frantically before collapsing. Medical personnel at the polyclinic are currently monitoring their condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the affected pupils consumed asana, a popular local corn drink, sold by a vendor in the area. The vendor has also been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The Ningo-Prampram District Health Directorate has launched an investigation into the incident, working closely with parents and school authorities to determine the cause and ensure the safety of other students.
Efforts are underway to prevent further occurrences, as authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
