Fisheries, Energy Ministries Push Cleaner Technology for Ghana’s Fishing Sector

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture is strengthening collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to modernise Ghana’s fishing sector and promote more sustainable fishing operations.

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, paid a working visit to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, where the two ministers discussed practical interventions to improve the efficiency, productivity and sustainability of fishing activities across the country.

A key focus of the engagement was improving access to and the supply of premix fuel, a critical operational input for Ghana’s small-scale fishing communities.

The ministers also explored opportunities to promote the adoption of cleaner and more efficient technologies within the fisheries sector as part of efforts to reduce environmental pressures while improving productivity.

Hon. Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor noted that the collaboration forms part of government’s broader efforts to advance environmentally sustainable energy solutions that can enhance productivity while contributing to the protection of Ghana’s marine resources.

The engagement also reaffirmed the commitment of both ministries to work together to improve operational efficiency, encourage cleaner energy technologies and support the long-term growth of Ghana’s blue economy.

The collaboration signals a move towards a fisheries sector where improved energy solutions and modern technologies can support livelihoods while safeguarding Ghana’s marine resources for future generations.
