The 2025 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Playoffs came to a thrilling end on Sunday, November 2nd, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, capping off a month of intense basketball action, passion, and rivalry.
This year’s playoffs featured teams from the Men's Division 1, Women's Division, and Division 2, all battling for glory and the ultimate bragging rights.
The women’s division included GRA, Police, Reformers, and Navy. Men’s Division 1 was represented by Spintex Knights, Tusk, University of Ghana, and GRA, while Division 2 featured Tudu Magic, Leopards, Navy, Rams, Swanlakers, Renegades, Army, and Panthers.
In Division 2, Tudu Magic completed a remarkable campaign to earn promotion, lifting the championship trophy as they make their return to Division 1.
In the Women’s Division, the Braves of GRA once again stamped their authority, successfully defending their title.
The highlight of the evening, however, came from the Men’s Division 1, where Spintex Knights completed a historic three-peat, cementing their dominance in the league.
Speaking after the event, Director of the Accra Basketball League, Alex Kukula, reflected on the season: "this year’s regular season was very competitive across all divisions. We saw teams improve significantly, which even resulted in two Division 1 teams missing the playoffs despite making it last year. One of the oldest teams in the league, Police, also got relegated to Division 2.
In Division 2, it’s great to see Tudu Magic return to the top flight after being out for some years, and Navy men qualifying to Division 1 for the first time in their history.
In the women’s division, even though GRA defended their title, there was noticeable balance and improved performances from the rest of the teams.
The playoffs were exciting Knights’ 3-peat was well-earned, but Tusk and UG pushed hard and made it very competitive.
Despite the technical challenges in Game 1 of the final, Game 2 was a strong finish.
Attendance was also encouraging, thanks to our media partners Velocity Sports and improved seating arrangements. Overall, it has been a very successful season, and any challenges we faced will guide our planning for next year. We are hopeful to make the league even better moving forward.”
