For more than 20 years, Samuel Tetteh has been a familiar figure on the hockey pitch, wearing the colors of the Ghana Police Service.

In a sport where players often fade out after a few seasons, Tetteh has stood tall, surviving the test of time and proving that passion and discipline can sustain a career longer than most imagine.

His journey began at Trustees Hockey Club before moving to Ghana Police, where he cemented his reputation as one of the league’s most consistent performers.

While many of his teammates have retired, he continues to lace up his boots, his presence always felt whenever he steps on the turf.

In 2002, Tetteh earned his first call-up to the national men’s hockey team during preparations for the 2003 All Africa Games in Abuja.

Although he didn’t make the final squad, he refused to let disappointment dim his passion. His persistence paid off years later when, in 2016, he represented Ghana at the World League Qualifiers in Accra.

The Greater Accra Hockey Association, together with the Athletes Committee, recently honoured him as the Most Dedicated Player of the Decade, a recognition of his unwavering service to the game he loves.

“I am humbled by this honour,” he said with a smile. “It hasn’t been an easy journey, but with the support of my family, coaches, and management, I am where I am today. Through hockey, I was able to join the Police Service, and now I serve as an officer.”

For Tetteh, hockey has been more than a sport—it has been a gateway to opportunities, a reason to travel the world, and a discipline that shaped his life. Yet, despite his achievements, he remains grounded and eager to inspire the next generation.

“Hockey is an energetic game that requires strength and skill. There were moments I wanted to give up as a young player, but advice from my seniors kept me going. To the upcoming players, I say be obedient, respect the rules, listen to instructions, and with God, you will succeed and leave your mark.”

At 20-plus years and still playing, Samuel Tetteh is not just a player; he is a living testament to resilience, humility, and love for hockey.

The recognition cements Samuel Tetteh’s legacy as one of Ghana’s most resilient hockey players, admired for his humility, longevity, and love for the game.
