Ndan Ya Naa backed Yong-Dakpema, Naa Fuseini Chimsi has appealed to the Northern Regional Security Council to take steps to ensure peace remains in Yong-Dakpemyili.

His call comes after fears of an outbreak of violence in the troubled area, following a press conference by a rival chieftaincy faction.

During the press conference, addressed by Secretary to the Tamale Dakpema, Alhassan Basharu Daballi, the rival faction which has been battling a legal suit with Naa Chimsi at the Tamale High Court claimed victory in the case, after the court cited the Gbewaa Palace backed chief for contempt last month.

However, a statement issued by Fuseini Baba, Secretary to the chief, dismissed the claims of victory by the rival faction, describing the action to run to the press as “a clear contempt of the Appeals Court” since they had already filed an appeal at the Appeals Court.

It advised the media to desist from publicly discussing the merits of the case.

“The decision of the High Court, has been challenged at the Court of Appeal. The pendency of the matter at the Court of Appeal makes it 'subjudice', for which reason we advise the media and the general public to refrain from discussing the merits of the case as being done by Mr Basharu Daballi in clear contempt of the court.” the statement claimed.

“We appeal to the Regional Security Council to take steps to curtail the actions of Mr Basharu Daballi and all persons behind his impudence, before they create new tension in the Yong-Dakpemyili community” it urged the REGSEC.

The statement also accused Mr Daballi of publicly disgracing the Dagbon Overlord who directed the late Banvim-lana to enskin Naa Fuseini Chimsi in April 2024.

"The media and the general public is also notified that his actions are not only detrimental to the peace of Yong-Dakpemyili, but also a great disrespect to the authority of the Yaa-Naa” it claimed.

Background

A dispute over who is the legitimate chief of Yong-Dakpemyili in the Tamale Metropolis has plunged the area into a five year protracted chieftaincy conflict, with several people losing their lives.

In an attempt to address it, Ndan Ya Naa in April 2024 directed the Banvim-lana to enskin Naa Chimsi as the chief of the area.

The Tamale Dakpema who before then was the traditional authority responsible for enskinning chiefs for the area was thus, claimed to have been stripped off the powers of enskinning Yong Dakpemyili chiefs by the Dagbon Overlord who is also the President of the Dagbon Traditional Council.

The other faction, led by the rival chief, Mohammed Chimsi filed a suit at the Tamale High Court to challenge the matter.
