The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) have suspended their strike action, effective Wednesday, October 16, 2024. This decision follows an emergency meeting held on Monday, October 14, 2024.
In a joint statement, the two associations explained that the National Executive Councils (NEC) decided to suspend the strike after the government issued a letter confirming that the revised Vehicle Maintenance Allowance (VMA) and Off-Campus Allowance would be paid to eligible members.
The statement further emphasized the importance of suspending the strike to allow for the continuation and conclusion of negotiations with the government on the Conditions of Service (CoS) that were already in progress.
The associations called on the government to honor its commitments. They expressed hope that the government would demonstrate good faith in resolving the outstanding issues within the agreed two-week period, as outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on October 2, 2024. This includes the integration of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC) into the Universities Pay Structure.
The leadership urged their members to remain calm and resilient as they continue to engage with the government on their legitimate claims and concerns.
