The running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, is at the center of a video that has gone viral online and caused controversy in Ghana. The video purports to show NAPO drinking what looks to be alcohol during a social event shortly after he openly denounced former President John Dramani Mahama as a "drunkard." The video has sparked a contentious discussion among Ghanaians on public individuals' ethics and political hypocrisy.

Dr. Prempeh is shown in the film drinking a glass informally while standing beneath a coconut tree at what appears to be a celebration. After watching the video, many Ghanaians think the drink he is holding is a strong alcoholic beverage rather than a soft drink. Claims that NAPO regularly displays strange behavior during campaign rallies, which some attribute to alcohol, have strengthened these suspicions.

Given his prior charges against John Mahama, critics have been eager to draw attention to the seeming contradiction in his behavior. NAPO has been called a hypocrite by some Ghanaians, who contend that his reputation is damaged by his suspected alcohol use. They wonder how he is able to call Mahama a drunkard while acting in the same way himself.

"If NAPO is calling Mahama a drunkard but is also caught drinking alcohol, then who is the real drunkard here?" asked one social media user. Others have agreed, accusing him of leveraging his criticism of his political rival to divert attention away from his own behaviors.

However, Dr. Prempeh's supporters have advised against drawing hasty judgments. Some contend that it is unjust to presume that he was consuming alcohol in the absence of specific evidence about what was in his glass. They think the video could be an intentional attempt by his political rivals to undermine him in the run-up to the elections.

Ghana's already turbulent political environment has become even more dramatic as a result of this tragedy. Voters are left wondering about their leaders' personal integrity in addition to their policy as the country gets ready for the elections. It is unclear if the film will have a long-term effect on NAPO's political career, but it has undoubtedly sparked conversations about leadership integrity and responsibility.
