On April 23, 2025, a sizable crowd gathered at Kumasi's Prempeh I International Airport to greet Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante Kingdom, as he returned after a brief vacation overseas. Following a triumphant year-long celebration of his reign in 2024, the King took this respite.
Traditional leaders and important public figures attended the lavish greeting ceremony. Among the prominent figures were the Juabenhene Nana Otuo Sereboe II; Asafohene, Akyeamfuo Asafo Boakye Agyemang Bonsu; Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, the mayor of Kumasi; Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the former MP for Manhyia South; Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjo; and Brigadier general Matthew Opoku of the Central Command.
Otumfuo's first stop upon arrival was the palace of his traditional mother, Nana Konadu Yiadom II, also known as the Asantehemaa. Following the conventions of the Asante people, he greeted her and exchanged pleasantries as a symbol of respect and solidarity.
The King is ready to tackle a demanding year now that he has recovered and is energized. Otumfuo will return to his role as a mediator in the Bawku chieftaincy dispute, according to a statement from the Manhyia Palace. Both parties are anticipated to attend this mediation, which will be held at Kumasi's Manhyia Palace from April 28 to May 1, 2025.
Furthermore, Otumfuo will participate in a number of significant events, such as the Millennium Excellence Awards and the fundraising for his Foundation's 25th anniversary. In his capacity as head of the Asanteman Council and the Kumasi Traditional Council, he will also address a number of traditional issues.
