Alan Kyerematen, the leader of the Movement for Change, passed former President John Agyekum Kufuor without acknowledging his existence.
Alan Kyerematen and Kufuor were shown during a funeral in a video that went viral online. When Alan Kyerematen came, he shook hands with those sat in the front row, while former President Kufuor, who had arrived earlier, was already seated.
After shaking hands with the individual seated next to Kufuor, Alan, however, declined to shake hands with the former president and passed by him, acting as though he had not even noticed him. Since the former president only remained grinning, it is impossible to determine from the video whether he was dissatisfied with Alan Kyerematen's behavior.
There is clearly animosity between the two, with Alan Kyerematen resenting former President Kufuor for not supporting his bid to be the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer. Many were surprised when Alan, who was regarded as Kufuor's favorite kid, began making subtle barbs at the former president after he quit the party and as the election approached. Alan's actions have shocked many, who wonder if the two can rekindle their once-loved relationship.
