The appointment of COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah as the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has been rescinded by President John Dramani Mahama. COP Addo-Danquah has been told to turn over her responsibilities to her deputy and return to Ghana Police Headquarters for reassignment, according to sources at the presidency, as reported by 3news.com. The decision coincides with government efforts to reorganize EOCO, an organization charged with looking into and prosecuting corruption and economic crimes. It is thought that President Mahama made this move in an effort to revitalize the agency and allay public worries about its recent performance, especially in high-profile financial crime cases.

After a lengthy career in the Ghana Police Service, COP Addo-Danquah brings a plethora of expertise to her role as EOCO boss in July 2021. Her time at EOCO has been scrutinized, though, as some detractors have questioned how the organization has handled significant probes. Additionally, according to 3news.com, this decision is a component of a larger strategy to fortify important law enforcement organizations and rebuild public confidence in anti-corruption initiatives. Following her reassignment to Police Headquarters, COP Addo-Danquah will return to her duties in the service, where she has demonstrated excellence in high-level roles, such as her post as Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Her deputy at EOCO will be in charge of running the organization after she leaves until a permanent replacement is found.
