According to Ghana Web on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Dan Botwe, the National Campaign Manager for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed disinterest in the sizable crowds that attend rallies hosted by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region. According to Botwe, the size of the gathering neither predicts an election victory for the NDC in the area nor signals a change in political opinion. "I was merely explaining to them that even the largest stadiums, such as Real Madrid's, can hold 80,000 people.
Given that the NDC has over 100,000 votes in Asawase and other parts of Kumasi, what is new if those individuals attend their rallies? "There is nothing new," Botwe said, stressing that there hasn't been a noticeable shift in voter behavior as seen by the NDC's rallies. He also questioned the reasoning underlying the notion that a large turnout at a rally means an electoral triumph. Does that mean the NDC will win Ashanti if just 60,000 of the roughly 100,000 voters who support them attend their rallies? How? We are completely unfazed," Botwe continued.
Botwe reiterated that the NPP's efforts are well-received by voters and will produce favorable outcomes in the general election of 2024, highlighting the party's persistent and well-planned campaigns. He said that big rally audiences don't usually translate into winning elections, citing past patterns. Despite the NDC's obvious mobilization efforts, Botwe is still optimistic that the NPP's grassroots efforts would ensure a positive outcome for the party in the Ashanti Region.
