In a daring declaration, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy Communications Director Malik Basintale promised to see that incumbent Communications Minister Ursula Owusu is held accountable for alleged misbehavior, according to an article published by MyNewsGH on Monday, December 2, 2024. Speaking at a mini-rally in Ablekuma West, Basintale said he had proof against her and urged people to vote against Owusu in the next elections. "I need you to help me in some way. I hope you are aware that Ursula Owusu will serve as Nsawam's minister of communication. Basintale made his intentions apparent when he remarked, "Vote overwhelmingly against Ursula Owusu and leave the rest to me." He went on,

With six days remaining before she leaves office, she should find friends in Nsawam so that the local thieves would choose her as their communications minister. I, Malik Basintale, will arrest her and have all of her receipts in my pocket." The purpose of Basintale's remarks was to mobilize local support for the NDC parliamentary candidate. He asked his supporters to have faith in the young men's efforts, saying that they were prepared to act if anything strange happened on election day.

Many people saw Basintale's remarks as a grave danger to the Communications Minister's political career and personal freedom, which has caused controversy. The statement has highlighted the high level of tensions leading up to the election, where accusations of wrongdoing and corruption are likely to be major talking points.
