E/R: The massive galamsey ring on the Pra River being dismantled by NAiMOS

In a significant intelligence-led operation on Tuesday, the National Anti-illicit Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) discovered and destroyed a vast illicit mining (galamsey) network operating right on the river Pra in the Eastern Region.Targeting illicit mining activities along the Pra River corridor between Ofoase Awona and Nsese settlements in the Akyemansa District, the joint operation was conducted in cooperation with the Akyem-Oda Blue Water Guards.The exercise is a component of continuous national initiatives to uphold environmental regulations and safeguard Ghana's waterways.The operation was carried out under strict security and secrecy, according to NAiMOS, with the main goals of confirming intelligence reports, stopping ongoing illicit mining operations, and demolishing equipment used to contaminate the river.Illegal mining has severely degraded the River Pra, causing some water treatment facilities to close in recent months.
