Following a recent firearm-related incident at a public event in Accra, social media users have taken notice of a brief discussion between Nigerian artist Asake and President John Mahama. In front of Ibrahim Mahama, Richard Nii Armah Quaye, John Dumelo, and other visitors, the President met the musician at a supercar show on December 30. Mahama looked shocked during introductions in a video that has since gone viral, asking, "Ooh, so he is the one the guy fired the gun for?" Asake chuckled after this was verified and then apologized, stating, "We are not happy about what happened."

"Don't worry... the law is the law," President Mahama calmly replied, grinning at the performer. The statement follows the announcement by the Criminal Investigation Department's Cyber Vetting Team that a suspect connected to a widely shared video of a gunshot being fired at El-Wak Stadium on December 28, 2025, had been arrested. Abubakari Sadick, also referred to as "Cyborg," was detained in Adenta a day later, according to a police statement dated December 30. The police stated that "a Derya MK-12 firearm with registration number 22-GHA-1162 has been retrieved and secured as evidence" and that "the suspect was arrested for possession and discharge of a firearm."
