Here are the prices based on ground reports for cement and Kenkey, brouhaha.

Online reports indicate that cement prices would drop significantly starting on Sunday, May 18, 2025. The price of GHACEM cement is said to have dropped from GH₵120 to GH₵82 due to the cedi's strengthening value relative to the US dollar. However, many Ghanaians have voiced skepticism, arguing that the price reductions are not mirrored in physical stores, casting doubt on these claims.

While GHACEM 32 cement is still priced at about GH₵110 as of May 19, 2025, GHACEM 42.5 cement is still available for between GH₵120 and GH₵135, depending on the retailer. Additionally, it is said that Dangote cement sells for about GH₵128. A number of customers have posted receipts online proving that, before the drop was announced, they bought cement at these unaltered rates.

The disparity has sparked speculation about whether the price reductions are being applied gradually or if consumers aren't yet receiving them. Some others think that if the price cut is real, it might take some time for it to appear in stores.

In addition to the concerns about cement prices, there are claims that the present government has vowed to lower the price of kenkey, a favorite Ghanaian delicacy, from GH₵5 to GH₵3. When asked, a kenkey vendor, however, maintained that the dish's cost has not been impacted by the dollar's decline, claiming that the ingredients used to make kenkey are not imported.
