The National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organizer, Dr. Joseph Yammin, has demanded that ACP/Mr. Stephen K. Kwakye, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, be fired immediately for allegedly participating in partisan activities during the election.
Yammin claimed that the police commander directly encouraged officers to back the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in an exclusive interview with Kojo Marfo on AbusuaNkommo at Abusua 96.5 FM.
He asserted that the NPP member who shared NPP funds at the police station was the Deputy Police Commander.
Yammin claims that ACP Kwakye was given the responsibility of allocating monies on behalf of the regional minister in order to influence police officers' votes in support of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's presidential candidate.
"The regional minister gave him money to distribute among police officers in order to encourage them to vote for Dr. Bawumia."
In spite of what he called blatant misbehavior, the NDC organizer expressed his dissatisfaction and asked why ACP Kwakye is still in his position.
"What keeps him in his position? He ought to have been fired and sent home by now. He will explain to his family that he was sharing NPP funds on election day, even though he wasn't supposed to, when they inquire as to why he was fired. However, he remains at his post," he raged.
Yammin also charged the police officer with lowering force morale by allegedly victimizing policemen who were linked with the NDC.
"He threatened to transfer some NDC members and tagged them, demoralizing the police force, but those he demoralized still see him in the office today." He said, "We're kidding; we ought to be hitting people and telling them that what they did was wrong."
