Mr. Drew does not perceive a distinction between being signed and being self-sufficient.

Mr. Drew has likened being signed to a record company to being self-sufficient. Navigating the music industry as an independent act was "not difficult – not at all," he told Zeal Nana Kweku Bliss.

They were on Class Xtra on Class 91.3 FM. "It's not difficult. It reminds me of my time on the [record] label. The same thing. Nothing has changed; I'm still doing the same things," he clarified. "I'm doing exactly what I was doing when I was signed to a label." The series hitmaker recently departed from Highly Spiritual, a musical label owned by religious pastor and record producer Kaywa.

After his contract with Highly Spiritual expired, the musician chose not to extend it. The claim that, as an independent artist, he was performing the same acts he had performed as a label employee begs the question of how much responsibility Highly Spiritual had for him during his time there.
