Peter Kwakye-Ackah, the Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central (NDC), has given an explanation for his decision to withdraw from the parliamentary election scheduled for December 7, 2024. The MP filed to run as an independent in the 2024 elections after losing to Joana Gyan Cudjoe in the NDC parliamentary primary.
Kwakye-Ackah said in a statement seen by GhanaWeb that he made the decision to withdraw from the race following the High Court's revocation of an order that prevented Gyan Cudjoe from running in the parliamentary election.
His motivations for being independent are no longer sound, he continued, so he is withdrawing from the race. "I wish to inform the good people of Amenfi Central and the general public of my decision to withdraw my independent candidature from the 2024 Amenfi Central Parliamentary election forthwith."In light of the High Court's ruling to clear the NDC's parliamentary candidate for this year's election, I feel that my justifications for running as an independent are no longer valid," he said.
