President John Dramani Mahama has declared plans to transform the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, also referred to as Ridge Hospital, into a full teaching hospital as part of his reaffirmed commitment to bolstering the region's healthcare infrastructure.
The former president underlined the pressing need to enhance healthcare results in the region while speaking at the Old Ghanata Astroturf in Dodowa as part of his Greater Accra "Thank You Tour."
"Our goal in this region's healthcare delivery is to improve the quality of our healthcare results. As a result, we plan to transform the Greater Accra Regional Hospital into a comprehensive teaching facility. He said, "That's the Ridge Hospital."
Mahama claims that this action will increase the hospital's capacity while also promoting specialized training and lowering the quantity of medical referrals from outside the area.
Additionally, the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons will be affiliated with Ridge Hospital. This will decrease referrals outside the area and improve specialist trainings," he continued.
In addition to Ridge Hospital, Mahama pledged to expand CHPS compounds in strategic peri-urban locations in order to concentrate on community-level healthcare services.
In order to guarantee that primary healthcare is dependable and easily available, he added, "We will also expand CHIPS compounds in specific urban communities like Bortianor, Kpone, and Shai Osudoku."
Mahama promised to make life simpler for healthcare professionals stationed at CHPS institutions by making sure appropriate housing is given, acknowledging the difficulties they encounter.
"We are going to include accommodations for health workers who man the CHIPS compound in all of our new and existing CHIPS compounds," he said.
With an emphasis on accessibility, training, and sustainability, the NDC flagbearer's healthcare vision outlines a focused strategy for tackling the Greater Accra Region's urban and rural medical issues.
