Sam George makes fun of Bawumia for the E-gate incident at KIA.

The Kotoka International Airport's recently installed Ghana Card-enabled E-gate had a rough beginning as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was unable to utilize it right away. It took several minutes for the barrier to unlock and let the Vice President, who had tested the technology first, pass through. Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George responded to the situation by ridiculing Dr. Bawumia on Twitter and raising doubts about the system's preparedness before to its introduction.

"The system's failure demonstrates that rushing to prove a point leads to a bad crash," he tweeted. Before permitting the Vice President to commission the system, he asked if the airport had not conducted User Acceptance Testing. On social media, the comment has generated a lot of discussion as people provide their opinions on the effectiveness of the E-gate system and the preparedness of its implementation.

However, the vice president's supporters played down the problem, pointing out that little hiccups are typical when new technology is first being introduced. A larger initiative to digitize public services and establish Ghana as a pioneer in digital transformation in Africa includes the Ghana Card-enabled E-gate system. Although there have been conflicting responses to the launch incident, supporters think the project will yield significant advantages once it is properly perfected.
