Following widespread indignation over a video showing him abusing his wife while she was holding their infant kid, Kojo, a young guy from Korle Gono in Accra, was sentenced to one week in jail.

The Thursday assault sparked intense emotions on social media and swiftly went viral. The unsettling video shows Kojo assaulting his wife repeatedly while she pleads for help and protects their 8-month-old child. He was sentenced to just seven days in prison by the court on Saturday, April 12, a decision that has caused incredulity and ire.

Social media users and outspoken locals have denounced the penalty as being excessively light. A local merchant named Amina questioned, "What kind of message are we sending?" "After a week, a man strikes a pregnant woman and gets away with it? That is not acceptable.

Some expressed worries about the mother and child's future, while others concurred that Kojo's actions were unacceptable. One person raised the question, "If he gets five years, who supports the baby and the woman?" implying that family justice is complicated.

However, many contend that the legal system ought to treat more serious crimes with the same urgency. Another resident added, "This man was sentenced in 48 hours." "However, politicians who embezzle public funds go unpunished for years."

Advocates for women's rights have demanded stricter legislation to prevent domestic violence. "It becomes even more urgent to act decisively and send a clear message when abuse occurs in front of a child," a spokeswoman stated.

Although the mother and child are safe at this time, the story has reignited national conversations about justice, equity, and Ghana's assistance for victims of domestic abuse. As the public demands accountability and a more humane legal system, calls for fundamental changes are becoming stronger.
