On July 23, 2025, Bright Aweh, the main suspect in the killing of immigration officer Steffen King Amoah, made his initial court appearance. After starting at the Kwabenya Circuit Court, the case was later moved to the High Court. The event began on July 4, the day after Amoah went home to see Aweh, who was characterized as a close friend and someone who owed him GH¢200,000, according to a missing person report submitted by his family.

The family claims that in order to collect the loan, Amoah had scheduled a meeting with Aweh for the evening of July 3. But he never came back home. A burnt body was found by authorities on July 9 at Ashongman Estate, the location of the alleged meeting. To be examined, the bodies were brought to the Police Hospital morgue. Aweh was later taken into custody by the authorities. Although his account has allegedly changed several times, he first told investigators that he had paid back the GH¢200,000 and even gave Amoah an extra GH¢300,000 for safekeeping.

The issue was further compounded when Amoah's wife got a weird message on his phone the night before he vanished, claiming he had brought the money back home. She asked his brother to check on him because of the suspicious tone of the communication. Amoah was gone when he got there, which raised grave questions and complicated the investigation into his untimely demise.
