The National Cathedral: A Message From Apostle Eric Nyamekye to John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has heard the opinions of Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the General Overseer and Chairman of the Church of Pentecost.

In an interview with an Oyerepa FM reporter during Mahama's inauguration, Apostle Nyamekye called for a comprehensive review of the National Cathedral project. He recommended that in order to determine the appropriate course of action, the President and his team should discuss the issue.

Apostle Nyamekye stressed that he is prepared to back any choice the administration chooses. He stated that he would accept it if the government chose to scrap the project and write off the money that had already been spent. However, he would also support their judgment if they think that finishing the cathedral may bring in money and should go forward.

When making their choice, he urged Mahama and his government to carefully consider the interests of the church and the country.

"I think John Mahama and his group ought to consider what's best for the church and the nation. They should make a commitment to whatever decision they decide to make. Should they decide to finish the cathedral, that would be a good thing. It would also be OK if they choose to use the land for another purpose. The project's prior investment should be taken into account, in my opinion. Will it have been worth it to stop it? They should move forward if they think that finishing it will benefit the country. I'll stay impartial. Building a church, in my opinion, does not ensure that God will be present in a nation; rather, what matters most are the morals and actions of its citizens, he said.
