Prof. Ransford Gyampo, a renowned political science professor at the University of Ghana, has harshly criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo's administration for allegedly disregarding the issues that ordinary Ghanaians face. Speaking during a conversation on TV3, Prof. Gyampo compared the present government to that of previous President John Dramani Mahama, using the term "deader goat syndrome" to characterize Akufo-Addo's management style, according to an article published by Modern Ghana on Monday, December 9, 2024.
"No one is heard by this government. In Akufo-Addo, we have a deader goat than the one we had in Mahama. In reference to Mahama's notorious "dead goat syndrome" comment, Prof. Gyampo said, "The difference is that Mahama spoke about it, but Akufo-Addo, he will not say it." According to Prof. Gyampo, the Akufo-Addo administration has fared poorly on a number of governance metrics, making it the worst in Ghana's history under the Fourth Republic. "I don't talk without research.
You compare by contrasting it with other governments, and we look at indicators. He added, "We are claiming that Akufo-Addo's administration is the worst of all the governments we have had since 1992." The governing New Patriotic Party's (NPP) resolve to "break the eight," a catchphrase that reflects the party's goal of winning a third straight term in office, also worried the scholar. This pursuit, according to him, is a sign of conceit and a lack of concern for the public's discontent.
