In a spirited effort to promote environmental cleanliness ahead of the Christmas festivities, hundreds of residents from Agape and Ablekuma communities joined forces with the Chiefs and Opinion Leaders of the Ablekuma Sempe Mensah Family to embark on a two-day clean-up exercise. The initiative aimed at encouraging good sanitation practices and preventing communicable diseases in the area.
Leading the exercise was the Ablekuma Nkosuohemaa, Sarah Esi Meinet, who emphasized the importance of rekindling the communal labor spirit to ensure regular clean-up activities in the community. She urged residents to collectively maintain a tidy environment by clearing waste from drains and streets to make the area livable and functional.
“This clean-up exercise is part of my initiatives to improve sanitation in our community. It is a collective effort to prevent the outbreak of diseases and ensure the environment remains conducive for all,” said Sarah Esi Meinet.
The exercise drew a diverse group of participants, including traders, Chiefs, Assembly Members, and hundreds of residents. Together, they swept streets, cleared choked gutters, weeded overgrown areas, and removed plastic waste and refuse from markets, bus terminals, business centers, and other public spaces. The activity began in Agape and concluded at the Sempe Mensah Family House in Ablekuma.
Nii Dade Boahene, the Nkosuohene of Ablekuma, also addressed the participants, emphasizing the need for residents to maintain cleanliness to prevent diseases linked to poor sanitation. “This initiative is to advocate for a clean and healthy environment. Let us cultivate the habit of keeping our surroundings tidy to ensure the well-being of our community,” he said.
Some residents who participated in the exercise expressed satisfaction with the initiative, citing its importance in creating awareness about living in a healthy environment. They appealed to their fellow community members to adopt a culture of cleanliness and expressed gratitude to the Nkosuohemaa, the Chiefs, and the Sempe Mensah Family for organizing the event.
This united effort highlights the power of community action in fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
