Madam Akua Donkor, the flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has expressed concerns over the actions of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), questioning their reasons for frustrating the Electoral Commission (EC) and the electoral processes as the country prepares for the December 7, 2024, general elections.

Madam Donkor specifically referenced incidents of violence during the voter registration process in areas such as Kukuom, Kasoa, and Cape Coast. She also mentioned the numerous allegations made by the NDC regarding discrepancies in the provisional voters' register. According to her, such actions not only undermine the credibility of the elections but also threaten the smooth conduct of the democratic process.

She, however, expressed her belief that the electoral process is transparent and credible, urging the NDC and other political stakeholders to exercise restraint and trust in the system. "The Electoral Commission has done a commendable job thus far, and it is crucial for all parties to support their efforts rather than create unnecessary tension," she stated.

Speaking in the Ghanaian language Twi, Madam Akua Donkor also praised the Electoral Commission, led by Mrs. Jean Mensa, for their professionalism and commitment to ensuring a free and fair election. She commended the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what she described as their electoral tolerance, emphasizing the need for all political actors to work together toward a peaceful election.

Her comments came shortly after a crucial Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on October 1, 2024, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. The meeting brought together all registered political parties and independent candidates to address concerns raised by the NDC regarding errors in the provisional voters' register.

Meanwhile, Mr. Justin Koduah Frempong, the General Secretary of the NPP, has called on the NDC to substantiate their claims of errors in the provisional voters' register by presenting them to the Electoral Commission for further action.

During the meeting, Mrs. Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, addressed the alleged discrepancies raised by the NDC. She reassured all political parties and the general public that the voter registration process is ongoing and fully backed by constitutional instruments. She further assured that a second exhibition of the voters' register would soon be held to address any outstanding concerns and guarantee a credible and transparent electoral process ahead of the general elections.

As Ghana approaches the pivotal 2024 general elections, Madam Akua Donkor called on all political actors to prioritize peace and unity, reminding them that no election is worth destabilizing the nation.
