The Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has announced the commencement of a vital initiative designed to address the protracted water challenges plaguing several communities within her constituency. The ambitious project involves the drilling and installation of thirty (30) new boreholes, each to be equipped with modern hand pumps, promising a reliable and sustainable supply of clean, safe drinking water to the residents.
Access to safe water is a fundamental human right, crucial for public health, sanitation, and socio-economic development. For too long, many areas in Wassa Amenfi Central have grappled with acute water scarcity and the prevalent threat of water-borne diseases. These issues have been significantly exacerbated by seasonal droughts, the far-reaching impacts of climate change, and the pollution of existing water sources.
"This project is a direct response to the urgent needs and concerns consistently raised by our local residents and stakeholders during recent community engagements," Hon. Gyan Cudjoe stated. "Our primary objective is to significantly improve the quality of life for all constituents by ensuring consistent access to one of life's most basic necessities."
The new boreholes, fitted with modern hand pumps, are expected to provide immediate relief and long-term benefits, reducing the burden on women and children who often spend hours fetching water from distant or unsafe sources. This intervention is anticipated to drastically cut down the incidence of water-borne diseases, allowing children to attend school more regularly and residents to engage more productively in economic activities.
