Save The Nation For Future Leaders, a Ghana-based non-governmental organization (NGO), on September 30, 2024 has made a formal request to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, seeking the opportunity to address the House on strategies to combat illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

In a letter dated September 30, 2024, Kwadwo Atta Apeakorang, the NGO’s Founder and President, highlighted the organization's active role in raising public awareness, engaging with communities, and working alongside stakeholders in the fight against galamsey. The group aims to protect Ghana’s environment, water bodies, and farmlands, which have been devastated by illegal mining activities.

The letter emphasized the importance of Parliament's role in enforcing policies to curb galamsey and urged the House to take concrete action. Apeakorang expressed his desire to address Parliament in his local language, presenting actionable solutions based on community engagement, law enforcement, and sustainable alternatives. He believes a combined effort from Parliament, local communities, and other stakeholders could help eradicate the menace.

In addition to the Speaker, a copy of the letter was also sent to the *Parliamentary Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources*, further urging swift action on the galamsey issue.

The NGO leader believes his presentation will provide valuable insights and complement the national efforts to resolve the crisis. Apeakorang's petition is now awaiting Parliament's consideration.
