Nkoranza Traditional Area Gears Up for Grand Funeral Rites of Ankobeahene Oheneba Agyei Baffoe in November 2025

Nkoranza, Ghana – The Nkoranza Traditional Area is set to host a four-day funeral and burial ceremony for its revered Ankobeahene, Doteyie Oheneba Agyei Baffoe, scheduled from Monday, November 17th, to Thursday, November 20th, 2025. The solemn event, which promises to draw a wide array of dignitaries and the general public, will take place at Dodua Kra'se, Nkoranzafie.




The detailed programme for bidding farewell to the late Ankobeahene was unveiled today by Nana Nyarko Ababio, the Senior Chief Linguist of Nkoranza, who briefed the media on the upcoming rites. Oheneba Agyei Baffoe, a prominent figure in the Nkoranza Traditional Area, served diligently as Ankobeahene, a role vital to the traditional governance and security of the Nkoranza stool.

The funeral proceedings will commence on Monday, November 17th, 2025, with the arrival of the Ankobeahene's body, which will then lie in state, allowing for private mourning and preparation at Dodua Kra'se, Nkoranzafie.

Tuesday, November 18th, will begin with a 4:00 AM prayer service led by the Anglican Church, followed by a day-long Church Service from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM conducted by various Spiritual Churches in Nkoranza. Later in the day, royal families, chiefs, invited guests, and the general public will have the opportunity to view the body and pay their respects.

Wednesday, November 19th, is earmarked for high-profile attendance, with viewing of the body by representatives from the Bono East and Bono Regional Houses of Chiefs, political dignitaries, government and private organizations, as well as more invited guests and the general public. This day will also allow for contributions. From 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, specific customary norms for the Fetish Priest will be observed, leading into the initiation of farewell rituals.

The final day, Thursday, November 20th, will begin with the Omanhene of Nkoranza performing customary rites alongside Nananom from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, moving from Nkoranzafie to Adinkra ase. A grand Burial Service will then be held from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, in collaboration with the local council of churches.

The afternoon of Thursday, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, is dedicated to welcoming an unprecedented list of national figures and traditional leaders to pay their final respects. Expected attendees include:

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

His funeral is anticipated to be a significant event, bringing together Ghana's political and traditional leadership to honor a departed elder.
