In line with the government's commitment to achieving zero illegal mining in forests and water bodies, the Member of Parliament for Pru East Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam has proposed his support to achieve this target.

Inasmuch, Hon. Boam emphasized the need to provide alternative livelihoods for youth involved in illegal mining while curbing the menace.

Speaking on Sunyani-based Ark FM ahead of the 2025 budget, the Pru East Member of Parliament stated that galamsey activities are barred in Pru East constituency of the Bono East Region with zero tolerance.

However, he stressed the importance of providing secure and well-paying jobs for the youth in Pru East to discourage them from engaging in galamsey activities.

Lord Boam believes that while the country is strongly against illegal mining, job creation should not be overlooked, describing it as a key alternative.

To encourage the youth in Pru East to consider the agricultural sector as a lucrative business, the lawmaker emphasized the need to promote mechanized agriculture to achieve significant potential.

Hon. Boam highlighted the constituency's vast lands, human capital, and rich soil, making it ideal for large-scale farming.

He believes these potentials make Pru East constituency an attractive destination for agricultural investment.

According to him, the NDC government has plans to implement innovative policies and make significant investments in the agriculture sector to ensure food security and provide jobs.

He reiterates the establishment of Farmers Service Centres, which will support farmers with modern agricultural equipment in all districts.

Lord Boam indicated that these centres will boost food production as farmers across the country will have access to machinery to plough their land.

The Pru East MP commended the Lands and Natural Resources Minister for his dedication to fighting against galamsey, citing the recent confiscation of galamsey machineries and subsequent arrest of illegal miners.
