Akufo-Addo inaugurates Oda's new market complex

Amid a flurry of excitement among the Chiefs and residents of Akim Oda, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo officially opened the brand-new, state-of-the-art market in the Eastern region's Birim Central Municipality.

A fierce fire destroyed the ancient, run-down market in September 2021, uprooting numerous diligent vendors and destroying hundreds of sheds and goods.

Part of the $100 million Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP), the project was built under the District Assemblies Common Fund.

In 25 municipalities around Ghana, it is one of the World Bank-backed initiatives being carried out expressly under the Urban Development Grant (UDG).

Over 250 lockable stores and other amenities including a clinic, a banking hall, and a creche are housed in the multi-story structures that make up the refurbished market blocks.

The efforts of the District Assemblies Common Fund Secretariat and its Administrator, Irene Naa Torshie Addo, were praised by President Akufo-Addo.
