Four people were killed in an accident at the Aggrey Memorial Senior High School (SHS) involving a bus departing from Yutong Takoradi and headed for Accra.
Additionally, the tragedy that happened on Friday morning has left over 20 persons with potentially fatal injuries.
There were reportedly 53 people on the bus, according to information obtained by Adom News.
Two travelers, Kojo Asiedu and Jonas Ofori Teye, described how the bus driver tried to dodge a towing car driver who had done an illegal overtake on the road.
But a car was coming quickly from the other direction, and the bus managed to avoid a head-on collision by landing on its side and traveling a short distance before coming to a halt.
The victims were taken to the University of Cape Coast and Cape Coast Teaching Hospitals for medical treatment, according to eyewitness Charles Opoku, who helped rescue them.
After the accident, he said, some of the passengers were trapped, while others sprang out of the window to escape.
"We had to refer some victims to the UCC hospital because the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital was full," said Keteku Prosper, a principal of the Emergency Medical Team with the National Ambulance Service.
He said that the victims are five children, seven women, and ten men.
