A campaign pledge to respect Islamic customs in Ghana has been fulfilled by President John Dramani Mahama, who has announced intentions to add another public holiday for Eid al-Fitr.

On Friday, January 10, this statement was made at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, during a National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving gathering.

In keeping with our pledges, we promised the Muslim community that the Eid al-Fitr celebrations will include an additional holiday. "We will formally recognize an extra day for the Sallah celebrations by amending the Holidays Act once Parliament reconvenes," President Mahama said.

In order to commemorate Eid al-Fitr following Ramadan, Ghanaians will receive two public holidays thanks to this idea.

To put the reform into effect within the year, the president promised that legislative modifications would be expedited.

Along with the new holiday, President Mahama reiterated the government's efforts to increase accessibility to the Hajj trip. He declared that Collins Dauda, the MP representing Asutifi South, will serve as the head of the five-member Hajj task committee.

One of their main duties is to work out agreements that will significantly down Hajj costs. More Muslims will be able to fulfill their religious duty if they choose to make the pilgrimage, Mahama disclosed.

Next week, the task team will visit Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj meeting, where they will examine ways to reduce the expense of the pilgrimage for Ghanaians.
