Dr. Randy Abbey should not be appointed Minister for Sports and Recreation, according to veteran sports journalist Ekow Asmah.
President Mahama wants to bring Ghanaian sports back to life, and Dr. Abbey has been mentioned as a possible contender for the position. These rumors were stoked by his resignation as host of Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana.
In contrast, Asmah openly requested the President to reevaluate Dr. Abbey's possible nomination in an interview with Happy FM, expressing worries over his suspected involvement in corruption within the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Since Dr. Randy Abbey is closely linked to all of the corrupt activities involving the current GFA administration, he shouldn't be named the new Minister for Sports and Recreation, he said.
In addition, Asmah urged the President to look for a strong, moral leader who would take on the GFA administration and deal with its alleged wrongdoing.
"We require a minister who will realign the ministry with President John Mahama's intention to reset the nation," he stated.
"We need someone who won't solely concentrate on football like Mustapha Ussif, the previous minister. Asmah continued, "We need someone who will fight back against the FA's corrupt officials."
