President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to extend the dualisation of the Kasoa-Winneba Road to Cape Coast as part of a broader effort to improve road infrastructure in the Central Region. He made this commitment during a recent visit, assuring residents that the project will be prioritized when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) returns to power.
The dualisation project, which is currently ongoing from Kasoa to Winneba, will continue in two additional phases. The second phase will extend the dual carriageway from Winneba to Mankessim, while the final phase will complete the stretch from Mankessim to Cape Coast. Mahama revealed that these phases would be funded under the NDC’s proposed ‘Big Push’ programme, which aims to accelerate infrastructural development across the country.
Mahama stressed that road expansion is crucial for economic growth, as the Kasoa-Cape Coast corridor serves as a vital route for trade, tourism, and transportation. The road, which connects Accra to major towns in the Central and Western Regions, has been plagued by severe traffic congestion and frequent accidents due to its single-lane sections.
“We started this project to ease movement, reduce travel time, and enhance business activities, but work stalled after we left office. When we return, we will complete it,” Mahama stated.
Residents and transport operators have welcomed the announcement, expressing hope that the project will materialize. Many have long complained about the poor state of the road, which negatively affects travel and business activities.
Mahama also reaffirmed his commitment to other major road projects in the region, including the Yamoransa-Assin Fosu and Cape Coast-Twifo Praso roads, as part of a broader strategy to boost infrastructure development.
