Barbara Mahama, widow of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama, has emerged as a symbol of resilience and strength, becoming an inspiration to many through her personal journey.

Major Mahama, a committed soldier, tragically lost his life on May 29, 2017, in Denkyira Obuasi, Central Region, Ghana, when he was lynched by a mob during a morning walk—an event that deeply shocked the nation and devastated his family.

In spite of her overwhelming grief, Barbara has shown extraordinary determination, rebuilding her life and caring for her children. Her path to healing and resilience is shared in her memoir, RESILIENCE: Reflections from a Widow's Diary. In the book, she reflects on the profound pain of losing her husband, the lessons from her upbringing, and the deep impact of his death on her life.

Barbara’s memoir not only recounts the tragic events surrounding Major Mahama’s death but also offers a deeply personal reflection on how she navigated the grief. Her story serves as a heartfelt tribute to her late husband and as an uplifting source of hope for others going through similar heartache.

Alongside her memoir, Barbara has accepted a role at one of Ghana’s foreign missions—a position offered to her after several opportunities were presented, as shared by Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul in November 2017. Drawing on her background in communications, she chose a role in the Foreign Ministry, believing it would help her family heal by offering distance from the painful memories of the past.

Barbara Mahama’s journey exemplifies the resilience of the human spirit. Her strength, faith, and unwavering determination remind us all that love and hope can endure, even in the face of deep sorrow.
