When President John Mahama arrived to the National Mosque in Kanda for the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, there was a moment of awkwardness. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the general secretary of the NDC, was among the important authorities who attended the ceremony commemorating Mahama's successful swearing-in on January 7.
That being said, the attendees were drawn to the dramatic snub. Asiedu Nketiah was moving through the crowd when a man who was presumably a member of the congregation flagrantly ignored his attempt at a handshake. The event was brief but glaring, leaving everyone in the vicinity clearly surprised and causing the congregation to murmur.
Despite the drama, the prayer service, led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, proceeded smoothly. The event highlighted calls for unity and peace among Ghanaians, though the handshake snub became the unexpected talk of the town.
