On November 22, 1951, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang was born in Cape Coast, Ghana. Her age is seventy-three. She is a National Democratic Congress (NDC) member. She teamed up with John Mahama in the 2020 presidential race, becoming the first female member of a major Ghanaian political party to be chosen as a running mate.
She attended Aburi Presby Girls' School after starting her schooling at Koforidua's Anglican Girls' Secondary School. She continued her education from 1964 to 1971 at Cape Coast's Wesley Girls High School. After that, in 1977, she graduated from the University of Cape Coast with a Bachelor of Education degree with honors in English and French. At Toronto, Canada's York University, she continued her education, earning a master's degree in 1980 and a doctorate in 1986.
She held several key academic positions, including Head of the Department of English, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Dean of Graduate Studies.
From 2008 to 2012, she served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, becoming the first female to hold that position. She also represented Ghana in March 2007 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York during the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery.
