Samuel Appiah: "Take the blame for post-election violence from political leaders, not the IGP."

Security expert Samuel Nana Appiah revealed that political leaders, not the Inspector General of Police (IGP), should bear the responsibility for violence following elections. This revelation was made by Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the IGP.

Speaking to Kasapa News, Samuel Appiah claimed that the IGP and his team had put in a lot of effort to keep the peace and ensure a successful election.

However, he added, supporters of the National Democratic Congress, the election's victor, attempted to damage the police officers in a number of ways, which is illegal, even if none of them had acted in an unprofessional manner.

The nation's two main parties' supporters, particularly those of the National Democratic Congress, the 2024 election victor, have seized power on their own.

The lawlessness of the populace has forced security agencies to flee for their lives following elections for the first time, he said.

The security expert added that while no one can guarantee that there won't be any violence before or after elections, different agencies should consider measures to prevent such incidents rather than placing blame.

After Vigilantism was abolished a few years ago, why are party members still bothering security services and interfering with their work?

Some even dared to threaten the director general of the CID and other important organizations, proving that the police didn't deserve any blame for their outstanding work.

As long as we have not received any post elections analysis that determines the police went unprofessional at some instance, they are not to be blamed in anyway for post elections violence,” he said.
