John Mahama Announces Key Appointments to the Office of the President Ahead of Inauguration

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has revealed his appointments for the Office of the President, just a day before his inauguration. The announcement, made on 6th January 2025 and signed by his Special Aide Julius Debrah, highlights several familiar faces from his previous administration.

Julius Debrah will return as Chief of Staff, while Dr. Callistus Mahama, who was appointed Secretary to the NDC’s Transition Team, will continue as Executive Secretary to the President. Former Attorney General Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew has been appointed as the President's Legal Counsel.

Here is the full list of appointees:

Julius Debrah – Chief of Staff

Dr. Callistus Mahama – Executive Secretary to the President

Prosper Douglas Bani – Head of Interim Security Taskforce

Dr. Valerie Sawyerr – Senior Presidential Advisor, Governmental Affairs

Augustus Goosie Tanoh – Presidential Advisor for 24-hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development

Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew – Legal Counsel to the President

Felix Kwakye Ofosu – Acting Spokesperson to the President

Additionally, Mahama has established a six-member Interim National Security Coordinating Team to oversee national security matters before the permanent appointments. The members of the team include:

Prosper Douglas Bani – Former Interior Minister (Team Leader)

Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.) – Former Chief of Defence Staff

Kofi Totobi Quakyi – Former Minister for National Security

Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq. – Former National Security Coordinator

Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrissu (Rtd.)

COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.)

John Mahama will be sworn in as President on 7th January, alongside Vice President-elect Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, at the Black Star Square in Accra. The inauguration is expected to attract thousands of citizens and high-profile international guests. In addition, Mahama has endorsed Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament.
