Grammy-nominated dancehall queen Grace Latoya Hamilton, popularly known as Spice, made a remarkable impact in Accra by supporting students from three basic schools in the La Dade Kotopon Municipality. Through her partnership with the MYO Global Foundation, she extended donations to La Anglican 1 Junior High School, La Anglican 2 Junior High School, and Anglican AME A Primary School.
The donations included a variety of essential items aimed at improving the students’ lives. These ranged from school uniforms for students in need, designer school shoes to encourage proper attendance, and educational materials such as whiteboards, to hygiene supplies, nutritional snacks, and a cash contribution to further assist the schools.
Spice used the occasion to share her journey from humble beginnings in Old Briton, Jamaica, to becoming an internationally acclaimed artist. She underscored the transformative role of education in her life, saying, “Education opened doors for me that I never imagined possible. It’s crucial that we invest in these young minds and provide them with the tools they need to succeed.”
The initiative was warmly received by the school authorities. Sarah Matey, Headmistress of La Anglican Basic School, expressed deep gratitude, emphasizing how the donation would impact the students’ lives. “This support will not only help our students focus better in class but also boost their confidence and enthusiasm for learning,” she said.
Miss Deborah Opoku Sarfo, Projects Officer at MYO Global Foundation, also highlighted the importance of such interventions. “When children have access to proper educational resources, they’re better positioned to focus on their studies and achieve their full potential. We’re honoured to partner with Spice on this important initiative that aligns perfectly with our mission of empowering communities through education,” she stated.
The collaboration between Spice and MYO Global Foundation has not only brought hope to these schools but also served as a reminder of the profound impact that education and community support can have on shaping a brighter future.
