Ghanaian musician Dr Cryme has opened up about his personal life and weighed in on ongoing conversations within the music industry, particularly claims that award-winning rapper Sarkodie often ignores calls from colleagues.

Speaking in a recent interview, Dr Cryme disclosed that he made a deliberate decision early in his career to change his phone number as a way of protecting his privacy.

According to him, the number he currently uses has been with him for over a decade.

“My telephone number has changed since I started using a phone. The current number I’m using, I have had it since 2009,” he said.

He explained that the move became necessary as his popularity grew, and managing constant calls and messages became overwhelming.

The musician noted that maintaining a controlled communication circle has helped him stay focused and avoid unnecessary distractions.

He added that only a few trusted individuals, including family and close associates, have access to his direct contact.

Dr Cryme indicated that setting such boundaries is important for public figures who constantly deal with high levels of attention.

Touching on issues within the industry, he also addressed concerns raised by some individuals who accuse Sarkodie of being difficult to reach.

Responding to such claims, Dr Cryme made it clear that he does not speak on behalf of the rapper.

“What I always say whenever I meet people talking about it, about him not picking other people’s calls, is that I’m not his public relations officer,” he stated.

He stressed that it is not his responsibility to explain Sarkodie’s personal decisions regarding communication.

“It’s either you have a conversation with him or pass on to the next one,” he added.

Dr Cryme further stated that the reasons behind Sarkodie’s actions are best known to the rapper himself.

“For him not picking the calls and all that, that will be best known to him,” he noted.

He also urged critics to reflect on their own behaviour, suggesting that ignoring calls is not unusual.

“Let’s ask ourselves—haven’t we done that before, one way or the other?” he asked.

The musician described the situation as part of a broader issue of perceived entitlement within the entertainment industry, where some individuals expect immediate access to top artistes.

However, he indicated that discussions around music collaborations require honesty and realism from all parties involved.

“But personally, when it comes to features and all that, let’s be sincere…” he added.

His comments have since sparked conversation among fans and industry players, with differing views on accessibility, professionalism, and expectations in Ghana’s music space.

Dr Cryme’s remarks highlight the importance of respecting personal boundaries while encouraging a more balanced approach to professional relationships within the industry.
